Mid-Year Freakout Tag

So this mid-year freakout book tag has been floating around the Booktube and book blogging community, and I thought it would be fun to try out. Basically, in honor of 2017 being half over (let’s not think about that too hard), you get to freak out about the books you’ve read and the ones you plan on reading. So without further ado, let’s do this thing.

1. Best Book You’ve Read in 2017:

Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are, hands down, some of the best books I’ve read in a very very very long time. I’ll go ahead and give the unpopular opinion that Crooked Kingdom is better, but both of these were fabulous.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2017:

I’m itching to say Crooked Kingdom again, but I guess I’ll acknowledge other books and go with Queen of Shadows.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is one of my favorite YA books of all time, and I’ve been dying to pick up Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s latest book. I just, you know, haven’t gotten around to it yet…

4. Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of 2017:

Chaol Westfall is my absolute favorite human in the Throne of Glass universe, so I’m more than a little pumped to read an entire novel from his perspective.

5. Biggest Disappointment:

I’m ashamed to type this. I was really expecting to love this one as much as I loved all of Gaiman’s other books, but I just couldn’t get into it. I’m hoping it was just a bad timing sort of thing, and I probably will try it again another time.

6. Favorite New Author:

Leigh Bardugo. I don’t even have words. Just. Leigh Bardugo.

7. Newest Fictional Crush:

Can we talk about that one time Chaol went back for the dog? Always choose the guy who goes back for the dog. That’s love.

8. Newest Favorite Character:

I wonder how many times I’m going to use this picture in this post. Also, don’t make me choose. I might hurt my brain trying.

9. Book That Made You Cry:

Ruin and Rising broke me a few times, I’ll be honest…

10. Book That Made You Happy:

Carry On is so freaking sweet and adorable.

11. Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year:

I actually haven’t seen any book to movie adaptations this year, so we’re going to change this to “manga to anime” adaptations. And then I can gush about how much I love Attack on Titan because I don’t do that enough outside of this blog or anything.

12. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year:

I don’t currently have that many to choose from, but I’ll go with my review for The Woman in Cabin 10 because I had a lot of critical thoughts on it.

13. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year:

I can’t use Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom because I got them last year, and I can’t think of anything else that stands out, so I’ll get ahead of myself and choose a book I plan on purchasing once it comes out in October. Isn’t she gorgeous?

14. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of the Year?

There are too many, but above are a few that are at the top of my TBR for the year.

  1. Hello!
I just visited your site, and I want to tell you that it is awesome and you should keep up the good work!
I just wanted to ask you to put a Follow button in your sidebar so it is easier for us to follow your posts!
    Keep it up.

    1. Thank you! That means a lot 🙂 And I’m actually trying to, but I can’t find the widget for that. What did you use?

  2. I need to do this tag myself!

Did you see the new Leigh Bardugo book that’s coming out next month?!?! It’s a retelling of Wonder Woman. I know, I am so excited I can’t even stand it. The LitJoy crate (the book subscription box) is even doing a Wonder Woman-themed box with the new Wonder Woman book in it. I subscribed and I’m super excited.

Also, oh no about the Neil Gaiman book! 🙁 I have loved his books I’ve read so I wonder what I would think of it.

And I have “The Smell of Other People’s Houses” sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read. It has snow on the cover, though, so I feel like I want to wait to read it until it’s colder outside. haha 😀

    1. You should do it! It was fun, and it was a nice change of pace from reviews. 🙂

Yes! She’s got Wonder Woman and a Grisha fairytales book coming out this year. I’m so excited. And wow, which month is that crate for? Might need to order that myself.

I’m hoping it was just poor timing for American Gods. I’d definitely give it another chance in the future – every other book I’ve read by Gaiman, I absolutely loved. If you decide to read it, let me know what you think!

Oh my goodness, I’ve been putting it off until fall/winter for the exact same reason. At least I’m not alone in categorizing my books by season.
